CodexStacks is a searchable directory of the add-ons that make OpenAI Codex more useful: plugins, agent skills and MCP connectors. Every listing shows what it contains and how to install it, taken from its own source. It's run by Dan, who also runs GrokStacks for Grok Build.

Where the data comes from

65 official plugins from OpenAI's curated catalog, github.com/openai/plugins (.agents/plugins/marketplace.json, marketplace name openai-curated). Skills, MCP servers, app connectors, commands, subagents and hooks are read from each plugin's own folder and manifest.
179 community repos from the GitHub topic codex-plugin that pass the quality filter below.

Community quality filter

A repo tagged codex-plugin is listed only if it:

is not a fork and not archived, and isn't empty;
has at least 10 GitHub stars;
was pushed to in the last 180 days;
has a description;
has a Codex manifest (.agents/plugins/marketplace.json or .codex-plugin/plugin.json) or, at minimum, a README;
isn't already listed as an official plugin, isn't an "awesome" list, and isn't on our short, published hand-exclusion list (for example tools that get around Codex usage limits).

At the last sync, 189 repos met the star bar and 179 passed everything else (left out: 6 hand-excluded (data/community_exclude.json); 2 no description; 1 no push in 180 days; 1 awesome-list (a list, not a plugin)). Passing the filter isn't a review: OpenAI hasn't vetted community repos and neither have we, so read the code before you install anything.

Install commands

Official plugins: codex plugin add <name>@openai-curated uses the syntax from the Codex CLI reference, or install them from /plugins in Codex CLI or the Plugins tab in the ChatGPT desktop app. Community repos that ship a marketplace file get the documented codex plugin marketplace add owner/repo step first. Everything else links to the repo's README.

The data refreshes automatically every night. Listings last changed on 2026-10-16. No fake reviews, and no "tested" badges unless we actually tested it.

Best lists

Our best Codex plugins pages are built from the catalog with a stated selection rule. They're not rankings and contain no paid placements.
